Following its most extensive renovation in 15 years, the Williamsburg Inn has officially reopened its doors.
The Williamsburg Inn was conceived by Colonial Williamsburg’s founding benefactor John D. Rockefeller, and his wife Abby Aldrich Rockefeller oversaw its design, construction and furnishing for its 1937 opening.
The newly updated Inn features a marriage of the classic elegance favored by the Rockefellers and modern amenities and aesthetic details, according to a recent news release from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Guests will notice some changes even before they step through the front door as they receive a welcome from doormen in top hats and tails.
From there, visitors will proceed to a new seated check-in area, where they will be treated to complimentary sparkling wine, water or cider and petit French macarons.
A lobby beverage bar featuring round-the-clock complimentary coffee, espresso drinks, tea and hot chocolate is also available to all guests.
Once check-in is complete, a manager and bellhop will personally escort guests to their rooms, which are appointed with Millcreek Furniture armoires custom designed by Colonial Williamsburg, interior automatic LED lighting, 40-inch flat screen televisions, Bose radios and Bartech Minibars with an assortment of beverages for purchase.
Guests will continue to notice updated amenities throughout their stay, such as a chilled Pallini Peachcello cordial presented on a porcelain tray atop a custom-made silk taffeta covered pillow along with three flavors of Dean & Deluca chocolates included as part of the enhanced turn-down service.
“The Williamsburg Inn honors our mission of preservation while maintaining Mr. Rockefeller’s high standards of guest comfort,” said Florencio Ferrao, Colonial Williamsburg vice president of hospitality. “Today’s guests seek the same high level of sophistication in a relaxed atmosphere, and I’m confident that our unique new offerings strike the perfect balance.”
