Junious Jenkins passed away at home Saturday, March 19, 2016, surrounded by his family. Junious retired as chief of police at Eastern State Hospital in 1998 after 39 years of service.
Born September 6, 1933, in Gloucester, Junious was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Franklin and Mary Jane Jenkins, a brother and five sisters.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 39 years, Shirley Edgemon Jenkins; daughter, Amy Colley (David) of Williamsburg; son, Alan Jenkins (Susan) of Miami; stepchildren, David Norman, Ann McCafferty (Kevin) and Jimmy and Jeff Norman; and grandchildren, Andrew and Mary Beth Colley, Joshua and Lauren Jenkins and Katie and Emily McCafferty, who will treasure their many memories of the times they shared with their PaPa.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. The family will hold a private funeral service.
The family deeply appreciates the care given by Riverside Hospice and requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to their Riverside Hospice Fund, Denbigh Professional Park, 608 Denbigh Blvd., Suite 700, Newport News, VA 23608.
