Lafayette’s 13-0 win against Heritage on Monday was not just a good way to start the season, it was also a monumental win for the Rams.
With the win, Lafayette snaps a 77-game losing streak that dates back four seasons.
“I didn’t even know it was 77 games until my daughter told me,” Lafayette Head Coach Tim Jones said. “I’m proud of the ladies who stuck with the program and who are buying into changing the culture.”
Leading the way for Lafayette was Julia Jones, who put together a nearly perfect performance in the circle. Jones threw a complete game, allowing two hits and striking out 12 of the 18 batters she faced.
Gabby Boesler paced the Rams at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Her sister, Jacquelyn Boesler, went 2-for-4 with a walk.
The Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, adding another run in the second inning before blowing the game wide open in the bottom of the third inning with six runs.
Four more runs over the final two innings helped Lafayette put an end to the game thanks to the Virginia High School League’s 10-run rule.
Lafayette (1-0) will now look to win a second consecutive game when the Rams host Warhill on Tuesday.
