Baseball: Walsingham Wins Season Opener

trojansA grand slam by JJ Burns in the bottom of the third inning helped lift Walsingham Academy to a season-opening win against Central Virginia Home School on Monday.

After two scoreless innings by both teams, Walsingham put up five runs in the bottom of the third inning to go up 5-0.

The Trojans added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning before watching Central Virginia Home School tack on six runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game at 6-6.

A Walsingham run in the bottom of the sixth inning put the Trojans back on top 7-6, and they did not relinquish that lead for the rest of the game.

Walsingham (1-0) will now prepare to visit Isle of Wight Academy on Wednesday.
