The James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting a brunswick stew sale next weekend to raise money for a member of the rescue squad in need.
The sale will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday and will last until the stew is sold out – a feat that may not take long, if past experience is any indicator. At the last brunswick stew sale, the fire department sold 540 quarts in about 90 minutes.
The money raised at this sale will go toward a lifelong member of the rescue squad who has “encountered numerous different medical issues that are still yet to be determined what the causes are,” according to the event’s Facebook page.
“Unfortunate circumstances have come about [and] she has medical bills [that] are starting to pile up after being in and out of hospitals over the last two years and still not having any real definitions of what is going on,” the event page went on to say. “Please come out to support our department and this family who has been helping in the community for well over 20 years.”
The sale will take place at the farmers’ market across from Station No. 1, at the corner of Forge and Richmond roads. The quarts will be sold for $10 a piece. Click here for the event Facebook page.
