Clara Allison Mayfield, 84, a longtime resident of Williamsburg, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, March 11, 2016.

A native Texan, she was born to Gibert and Jewel Allison and worked as a high school English teacher for 37 years. She was a longtime, and very proud, devoted member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband of 42 years, Fred W. Mayfield, to various countries such as Italy, Mexico and South America.

Clara was also a member and past president of the Williamsburg Lady Lions Auxiliary, an active member of several service organizations assisting the community and an artist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Mayfield; son, Thomas V. Allison; brother, Paul Ray Allison; and her parents, Gilbert and Jewel Allison.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Cawthon (Roger), and stepdaughter, Christine Howard (Ron); and grandchildren, Ryan and Reid Corbett and Lauren and Ty Howard.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 550 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg.

The family requests that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.
