Liz Parman is now serving as the interim executive director of United Way of Greater Williamsburg following the resignation of Sharon Gibson-Ellis last month.
Gibson-Ellis served as the executive director of the organization, which coordinates community service-oriented fundraising and volunteer initiatives throughout the Greater Williamsburg area, for five years.
Her resignation was effective Feb. 4.
Parman was asked by the board of directors to take on the position in an interim capacity. She joined the United Way team in July 2013 as an initiatives manager and was promoted to assistant director about a year later.
“I was thrilled to take on the challenge and to continue to see United Way grow stronger,” Parman said.
United Way is moving toward a smaller staff in an effort to “run leaner and more efficiently,” Parman said. Hers is one of three staff positions now – a decrease from five positions previously.
The board of directors has not announced a timeline for when they hope to appoint a new executive director, but the search is ongoing.
“We are hoping to continue to serve the community as best we can,” Parman said. “We have a lot of support in the community, and I hope to continue to build that support.”
