Warhill’s postseason run came to a disappointing close Saturday afternoon as the Lions were soundly defeated 68-33 by Spotswood in the Virginia High School League Group 3A Tournament quarterfinals played at James Madison University.

After a Cinderella run to the state tournament, Warhill met its match against a red-hot Spotswood team led by Kendyl Brooks, who scored 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds while also sinking six 3-pointers.

After a scoreless 50 seconds to open the game, Spotswood jumped on top of the Lions and did not relinquish that lead throughout the rest of the game.

Spotswood took a 16-9 lead over Warhill after the first quarter and ballooned its lead to 40-20 by halftime.

The Lions struggled to get on the board in the third quarter, scoring five points to Spotswood’s 17 points. With the lopsided quarter, the game was essentially put out of reach for Warhill.

Warhill finishes its season with a 15-11 record and an appearance in the VHSL state tournament for the first time since 2010.
