Fresh off a devastating buzzer-beating defeat to Petersburg on Thursday, Warhill’s girls basketball team rebounded less than 24 hours later by defeating John Marshall 52-45 in the Group 3A East third-place game at Petersburg.

After jumping out to a two-point lead against John Marshall in the first quarter, the Lions fell behind after being outscored 14-8 in the second quarter.

By halftime, John Marshall held a narrow 22-18 lead over Warhill.

Kieran McClure sank three clutch 3-pointers in the third quarter that allowed Warhill to hang with John Marshall and prevent its deficit from growing heading into the final quarter.

The Lions closed out the game in strong fashion, holding John Marshall to eight points while posting a game-high 17 points in the final eight minutes of play.
