The Panthers fell behind by one point in the first quarter, but rebounded to tie the game at 28 apiece by halftime.

George Mason pulled away from Bruton in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 21-13 to take an eight-point advantage heading into the final quarter of play.

Despite Bruton outscoring George Mason in the fourth quarter, the Panthers still came up short in the end during the loss.

Bruton (18-6) will travel to Orange County High School on Saturday to play Greensville in the Group 2A East third-place game.

WCA Trounces Broadwater in Metro Playoffs

Williamsburg Christian Academy cruised past Broadwater Academy 92-53 during Thursday’s Metro Conference quarterfinal held at Portsmouth Christian.

The Eagles, led by Xavier Green’s 25 points and Cle’Von Greene’s 24 points, built an early lead against Broadwater and never relinquished it throughout the contest.

Williamsburg Christian Academy (25-5) will play hosts Portsmouth Christian on Friday in the Metro Conference semifinals.
