Deena Murray Cross, 61, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016, at home surrounded by family after a long struggle with cancer.
She never once lost her faith in God to guide her in His chosen path. Her everyday thoughts were of her son, grandchildren, and family. Deena was born in Charleston, W.Va., and became a resident of Poquoson in 1975. She was a bank teller for Central Fidelity for several years. Deena loved the beach, working in her flower garden and yard, talking on the phone for days, and she especially loved her pets.
Deena was preceded in death by her husbands, William Murray and Dennis Cross; parents, Deloris and Robert Steele; and brothers, Jeff and Jonathan ‘Scotty’ Steele.
She is survived by her son, Craig Murray, and his wife, Michelle; stepson, Brian Cross and family; grandchildren, Brandon, Lexi and and Major; brothers, Bobby Steele, and his wife, Pam, and Blair Steele, and his wife, Lisa; sisters, Debbie Prater, and Michelle Stevens, and her husband, Eric; sisters-in-law, Joann, Sherry, Janie and Terri; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and one niece.
“Deena loved life and was the most positive and independent person we have ever known. She always took care and charge of family concerns.”
There will be a celebration of Deena’s Life for family and friends at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 28, at the JOUAM Lodge, 10 Lodge Road, Poquoson.
