Frances Ellen Parry, 83, teacher and elementary school librarian

Frances Ellen Parry, 83, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2016.

She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed life and had a deep faith in Jesus Christ. She served as moderator of the Women of the Church in the Presbytery of the Piedmont in South Carolina, and was a member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, Newport News.

Frances Ellen received a bachelor’s degree in education from Agnes Scott College; a master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia; and a master’s degree in library science from the University of South Carolina. She served as a teacher and elementary school librarian for many years in both Virginia and South Carolina.

Frances Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Gilkeson and William Fred Coley; husband, Thomas Herbert Parry; daughter, Virginia Gilkeson Parry; and aunt, Ellen Gilkeson.

She is survived by her two sons, William Thomas Parry and Robert Brinsmead Parry; and cousins, Jim Gilkeson, David Gilkeson, Scott Gilkeson, Julie Gilkeson Rittenour and Page Gilkeson Simpson.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, 414 Hiden Blvd., Newport News, with the Rev. William G. Lamont officiating.
