A suspect in the armed robbery of a City of Williamsburg gas station has been detained, police said.
Williamsburg Police were called to the Valero on the 600 block of York Street around 7:14 a.m. Monday, according to a news release.
The manager reported a black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and surgical mask entered the store, showed a firearm and demanded money.
After the clerk, who was not injured during the robbery, handed over an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled on foot.
Later, a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputy who was patrolling the area, and had received the description of the suspect from Williamsburg, stopped a car near the robbery scene. The driver was dressed similarly to the description of the suspect.
The driver has been detained but not yet charged as his possible involvement in the robbery is still to be determined.
