Daniel JonesBruton’s boys basketball team kept its season alive with a resounding 94-51 win at home against Amelia in the first round of the Group 2A East tournament on Friday.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick in the first quarter, building a 23-11 advantage in the opening eight minutes of play. Bruton would not relinquish their lead over the final three quarters.

By halftime, Bruton had extended its lead to 40-20. After a third quarter in which Amelia outscored the Panthers by four points, Bruton dominated the fourth quarter by posting 31 points to end the game in style.

Bruton (17-5) will host Robert E. Lee in the quarterfinal round of the Group 2A East tournament on Tuesday.

WCA Ends Season With Rout of Hampton Christian

Williamsburg Christian Academy capped off its regular season with a commanding 81-52 win at home against Hampton Christian on Friday.

The win also gives WCA a perfect 16-0 record in Metro Conference play during the regular season.

Leading the way for the Eagles on Friday was Michael Duncan, who posted a game-high 31 points. Xavier Green also added a double-double of 12 points and 18 rebounds.

The Eagles found themselves in a battle through the first three quarters, taking a 46-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, WCA attempted 20 free throws and sank 14 to pull away from Hampton Christian while putting up 35 over the final eight minutes of play.

WCA (24-5) will play the winner between Denbigh and Broadwater in the first round of the Metro Conference tournament on Wednesday.

Jamestown Falls in Conference 18 Finals

Jamestown fell short of claiming the Conference 18 title, losing a 74-63 at home to Heritage on Friday evening.

The Eagles put up a good fight against Heritage, but struggled to contain Heritage’s explosive offense.

Jamestown took an early first-quarter lead, but trailed Heritage by two points at halftime.

Heritage began pulling away in the third quarter, taking a 53-46 lead by the end of the quarter before closing the game out in the fourth quarter.

Jamestown (17-5) will still continue its season on the road Tuesday against Lake Taylor in the first round of the Group 4A East tournament.
