Printpack, the manufacturer that produces rigid plastic cups for well-known food brands like Mott’s, Del Monte and Smucker’s, will enhance its operations in James City County with a new $7 million capital investment.

Jim Stevenson, director of operations for Printpack Rigid, said the investment would go toward equipment that will allow Printpack to modernize existing equipment at its facility in the Busch Corporate Center and expand its product lines.

“Incremental” new employment would come with the investment, Stevenson said.

“We’re very pleased with our workforce here. They’ve done a fantastic job for a long period of time and allowed us to build a solid business here,” Stevenson said. “[James City County] been a good place for us to be and we want to continue to be here and be a valued member of the community.”

Russell Seymour, JCC director of economic development, said it means “a whole lot” to the county that Printpack is making the capital investment and shows Printpack has found what it needs to be successful in James City County.

“They are making a choice to not only continue to be in the county but also expand their current operations within the county, and that means a lot to us,” Seymour said. “From a local standpoint, that’s the most positive feedback you can get from any of your existing businesses.”

Printpack has demonstrated its commitment to being a “strong corporate citizen” by assisting with the expansion of regional recycling efforts, participating in the Williamsburg-James City County School Division’s annual Manufacturing Day and partnering with Grove Christian Outreach Center.
