Wrestlers from York, Warhill and Tabb earned a spot in next weekend’s Group 3A Wrestling Championships with good showings during Saturday’s Group 3A East tournament at Skyline High School.

York had the best team performance, coming in seventh place with 74 points. Next was Warhill in ninth place with 65 points, and rounding out the Historic Triangle teams was Tabb in 14th place with 45 points.

For the Falcons, Tommy Cicconni and Noah Pascarella each earned fourth-place finishes at 145 pounds and 195 pounds, respectively.

Brothers Nick (220 pounds) and Luke Grubbs (126 pounds) also earned spots in the state tournament as alternates, with each placing fifth in their respective weight classes.

Warhill’s Trey Drummond had one of the most solid individual performances of the tournament for any local wrestler. Drummond earned runner-up honors at 120 pounds.

Other standout Warhill performers were Malik Barr at 145 pounds and Justin Cooper at 113 pounds. Both wrestlers are state tournament bound, as Barr came in third place and Cooper placed fourth.

Tabb’s lone wrestler to qualify for the state tournament was Will Speight at 126 pounds. Speight came up just short of winning his weight class, instead settling for second place.

The Group 3A Wrestling Championships will be held Feb. 19 and 20 at the Salem Civic Center.

Gruver placed third at 152 pounds in the tournament, while Graves took fifth place at 220 pounds and earned a spot as an alternate.
