Swimming Roundup: Jamestown Boys, Girls Claim Conference 18 Crown

The Jamestown swim team remained perfect on the season as the boys and girls teams both took first place in the Conference 18 Championship Meet at Fort Eustis on Friday.

In the girls competition, Jamestown took first place with 564 points. Lafayette placed second with 494 points, while Grafton rounded out the top three with 283 points.

For Jamestown's girls, the win marks their fourth consecutive conference championship.

Joelle Vereb won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke for Jamestown, while also contributing to the winning 200 freestyle relay team and 400 freestyle relay.

Vereb's teammate Abby Larson also won multiple individual events, placing first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Lafayette's Jenna Beattie also won multiple individual events with wins in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Jametown's boys also put together a dominating performance, placing first overall with 593 points. Lafayette again took second, this time with 453 points, while Grafton again took third with 292 points.

Colin Wright was Jamestown's only boys swimmer to win multiple individual events, taking wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

For Lafayette, freshman Chris Kostelni placed first in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

Grafton junior Graydon Tinneny earned the only win for the Clippers on Friday, placing first in the 200 individual medley.

Jamestown and Lafayette will both square off again next Friday during the Group 4A East Championship Meet in Richmond.

Tabb Boys, York Girls Win Conference 27 Championships

Two Historic Triangle swim teams came away with championship trophies Friday during the Conference 27 Championship Meet held at Maury High School in Norfolk.

Tabb's boys team took first place in the boys competition with 615 points, while York's boys team placed second with 392 points.

Nick Talati of Tabb took first place in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle, while his teammate Chris Verastek won the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

York's Parker Harp won multiple individual events, placing first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

The roles were reversed in the girls competition, as York took first place with 623 points and Tabb finished as the runners-up with 416 points.

York's Alex Slayton placed first in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while her teammate Danika Katzer won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.
