Colonial Williamsburg released the extended 60-second version of its first Super Bowl commercial, a 30-second version of which will air during the game Sunday in the New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. markets.
The ad for the nation’s largest living history museum features former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw narrating over a montage of video and images from American history played in reverse as he ponders the question, “Where did our strength come from? Our fight? Our heart? Where did we first become ‘We the People’?”
The landing page for the ad also invites viewers to chime in on the conversation through social media by using #itstartedhere.
“The ads are meant to show that the America we know was not inevitable. It took courage. It took leadership. It took pain and sacrifice,” said Mitchell B. Reiss, president and CEO of Colonial Williamsburg, in a news release. “These ads take you backwards, down the many roads and tributaries of America to their original source: the revolutionary issues, debates, acts, and peoples that defined 18th-century Williamsburg.”
