Any York County residents looking to dispose of leaves hassle-free have until Jan. 29, when the county’s curbside leaf collection operations come to a close.

Additionally, extended seasonal drop-off hours at the Waste Management Center will end the following day.

Bags of leaves should weigh 40 pounds of less and must only contain leaves. Rejected bags that are overweight or contain unaccepted materials will be tagged and left behind.

To ensure leaves are collected during curbside pickup, bags must be placed at the front roadside by 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 25. Leaf pickup will be completed by the end of the week.

All leaves collected will be delivered to the Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority compost facility where they are de-bagged and incorporated into mulch. The de-bagging operation works best with clear bags no thicker than one millimeter that have no drawstrings.
