A William & Mary alumnus is trying to prove his diet is the best way to achieve a happy, healthy lifestyle during ABC’s new weight loss competition My Diet is Better Than Yours, which airs at 9 p.m. Thursdays.
My Diet is Better Than Yours is a competition reality show in which five average people are paired with professional trainers to see who can not only lose the most weight, but also achieve a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
Each trainer on the show is the creator of a diet plan, which each contestant follows during the competition. The diet plans range from vegan cleanses to superfoods.
If a contestant is not satisfied with a diet plan, the contestant is allowed to switch trainers once during the competition.
Jay Cardiello, a 1999 graduate of William & Mary, is paired with 35-year-old Jeff Benedict, who entered the competition weighing 359 pounds. Benedict dropped 10 pounds after one week on Cardiello’s No Diet Plan, which is more focused on developing healthy lifestyle habits than eating certain foods.
“We want to focus on behavior to create a new mindset,” he said during the show’s premiere, which aired Jan. 7. “My diet is not focused on food, it’s about breaking unhealthy patterns.”
Cardiello graduated from William & Mary with a degree in English and is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the International Sports Sciences Association and is an “Exercise is Medicine” Professional.
Throughout his career as a celebrity trainer, Cardiello has worked with the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Seacrest, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Sofia Vergara and other celebrities. He has also worked with professional athletes and teams in the MLB and NFL.
