The author of an award-winning young adult fantasy series will be speaking at the James City County Library this Thursday.
Alethea Kontis, a self-described “princess, fairy godmother, and geek,” is the woman behind the Books of Arilland fairytale series, which includes the Woodcutter Sisters trilogy and the forthcoming Trix Adventures series.
Several of the books in the collection have won or been nominated for national awards for young adult fiction, including the PRISM awards for excellence in young adult fantasy and romance.
In addition to her young adult novels, Kontis has also had several illustrated children’s books, collections of short stories and poems published.
Kontis is stopping by the library while in town for Marscon, eastern Virginia’s long-running science fiction and fantasy convention, at which she will be recognized as a guest of honor. She will discuss her books and her writing process in her lecture at the JCC library.
“We are thrilled to have [Kontis] visit as an on-trend published author of young adult fairy tale adaptations, as well as a passionate fan of fantasy fiction with a great personality sure to connect with young adult readers and aspiring writers,” said Rachael Nelson, an adult services librarian with Williamsburg Regional Library.
Kontis’ lecture is at 7 p.m. Thursday. Interested parties are encouraged to register for this free event by calling 757-259-4050.
