Swimming: Jamestown Girls Win Kecoughtan Invitational Meet

Jamestown’s girls swim team took first place during the 27th annual Kecoughtan Invitational at the Midtown Aquatic Center over the weekend.

The Eagles finished first overall with 248 points, which narrowly edged Frank W. Cox with 247 points.

Lafayette placed fourth with 197 points, while Hampton Roads Academy took fifth with 152 points.

York took ninth place with 103 points; Grafton placed 16th with 30 points and Tabb tied for 17th with 26 points.

Jamestown had two relay teams take first place during the meet. The 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay teams of Joelle Vereb, Hannah Clymer, Margaret Williams and Abby Larson each placed first.

Two other Jamestown swimmers won individual events in the girls competition. Larson placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.92 seconds, while Vereb took first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.57.

York’s Danika Katzer placed first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.02, and Lafayette’s Jenna Beattie won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:04.29.

On the boys side, Grafton earned the top finish among Historic Triangle teams.

The Clippers finished fifth with 160 points, while Jamestown finished sixth with 132 points. Hampton Roads Academy placed eighth with 111 points.

Tabb finished 13th with 68.5 points. Lafayette took 22nd and York took 23rd overall with 25 and 23 points, respectively.

Grafton’s 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Kilian Nebe, Jonathon Spires, Paul Noble and Graydon Tinneny earned the only first place finish among Historic Triangle swimmers in the boys competition. The relay team placed first with a time of 1:27.29.
