Williamsburg Christian Academy put on a masterful performance against James Monroe on Saturday afternoon in the eighth annual Virginia Preps Basketball Classic in Richmond.
Paced by Xavier Green’s 23 points and 12 rebounds, which earned him the game’s Most Valuable Player honor, the Eagles cruised to a commanding 79-65 victory.
Ball control proved to be the deciding factor in the game, as WCA committed 12 turnovers to James Monroe’s 22. Additionally, the Eagles scored 33 points off turnovers whereas James Monroe scored just eight.
Aiding WCA’s cause were hot shooting performances by its top players. Green scored his 23 points off 8-of-9 shooting, while Cle’Von Greene added 19 points of 7-of-10 shooting that included going a perfect 5-of-5 from behind the 3-point line.
The Eagles held a five-point advantage after the first quarter and maintained that lead heading into halftime. The third quarter proved critical for WCA as the Eagles outpaced James Monroe by nine points and put the game out of reach.
WCA (12-2) has now won three consecutive games and will continue its season on the road against Isle of Wight Academy on Monday.
