James City County is offering residents a chance to dispose of Christmas trees free of charge through Jan 31.
On Monday, the county announced James City County residents will have access to free Christmas tree recycling at the County Convenience Centers during normal operation hours.
The Jolly Pond Road Convenience Center is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, while the Toano Convenience Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week. The Tewning Road Convenience Center is open from 8 a.m. to noon Mondays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Similar to other local Christmas tree recycling programs, the county requires all decorations, tinsel, lights, garland and ornaments removed. Trees must also be removed from tree stands before recycling.
Additionally, James City County residents may also drop off leaves free of charge from Jan. 2 to 17 at the Jolly Pond Convenience Center.
All leaves to be recycled must be placed in clear bags no larger than 40 gallons. Commercial lawn service companies may drop off leaves at the convenience center with a letter from the resident containing their name, address and telephone number.
