Jamiyah Johnson logged a double-double of 20 points and 24 rebounds as Jamestown defeated Hanover 50-41 on Wednesday to win the Battle in the Birdcage at Hanover High School.
After falling behind by five points in the first quarter, Jamestown pulled almost even with Hanover by halftime. After 16 minutes of play, Jamestown trailed Hanover 22-21.
Behind strong play from Johnson, who was named Most Valuable Player for the tournament, the Eagles took the lead in the third quarter by six points.
Jamestown was able to hold off a late charge from Hanover thanks to a fourth-quarter outburst by Anaya Simmons, who scored seven of her 10 points in the final stanza.
With the win, Jamestown moves to 7-2 on the season and has won six consecutive games. The Eagles will continue their season on the road against Grafton on Tuesday.
