rodman shieldsRodman B. (Peanut) Shields, 85, Seaford, Virginia, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2015 in Texas.

Rodman was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ethel Shields; brother Eugene; sisters Lorraine, Geraldine, Joyce Faye and Jaunita; sister-in-law Sharon Garrison and brother- in-law Bobby Carter. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria; a son Jackie and his wife Joy; a brother Jim and his wife Martha; sister Barbara Carter; a grandson Rodman and his wife Nora and two twin great granddaughters, Avery and Stella; brother and sister in law, Ronnie and Jean Bowler; sister in law Marion; as well as many other extended family members and close friends.

Rodman loved the ocean and was the captain of the Seahawk, George E, Pauline Bowler, Castco and Shamrock, as well as several others vessels during his lifetime.

Captain Peanut still owns the record of the largest single haul of scallops on a single trip on the East Coast. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, always putting his loved ones first.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at Zion United Methodist Church, 2109 Seaford Road, Seaford, VA. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Zion United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church social hall following services.

The family would ask that memorial donations may be made to Zion Methodist Church for their building fund and flowers would be appreciated as well.
