Lena Thomas, 84, a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War

Lena Thomas of Manassas, VA, formerly of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the age of 84.

She was born September 1, 1931 in Girard, OH, a daughter of Stefan and Maria Frajka Salavary. She was a 1949 graduate of Girard High School, Girard, OH and earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1979, followed by a Master of Science in Textiles, Clothing and Related Art in 1981, both from the University of Rhode Island’s Program in Gerontology in 1982. Mrs. Thomas worked as an interior designer at Rue de France in Newport, RI, retiring in 1995.

She was a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. She enjoyed photography, sewing, quilting, knitting, and gardening.

She was a resident of Portsmouth, RI for 30 years and Williamsburg for 16 years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie and Pauline; three sons, Wayne, Bruce, and David; daughter-in-law, Jo-Ann; and three grandchildren, Nicholas, Joseph, and Anna.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony “Tony” Thomas; parents; seven sisters, Julia, May, Catherine, Anna, Elizabeth, Amelia, Irene, and a brother, Stephen.

A Mass will be held on Friday, December 11 at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Rd., Williamsburg, VA, at 9:00AM.
