Washington Paces Walsingham Over HRA

Twenty-three points from Richard Washington proved to be the difference as Walsingham Academy took down Hampton Roads Academy 62-43 in the consolation round of the Dale Travis Invitational at Trinity Episcopal on Saturday.

The first half was a competitive team as Walsingham outpaced the Navigators in the first quarter before HRA returned the favor in the second quarter.

By halftime, Walsingham Academy held a slim 23-20 lead over HRA.

Big third quarters from Washington and his teammate Jaylin Stewart helped Walsingham blow the game open.

Washington scored seven points in the third quarter, while Stewart logged 10 of his 16 points. While Walsingham scored a game-best 21 points in the third quarter, HRA struggled to find its rhythm over the same span.

Another eight points by Washington in the fourth quarter helped Walsingham ice the game and earn the victory.

Walsingham (4-1) will host Richmond Christian on Tuesday, while HRA (0-2) will prepare to host Christchurch on Tuesday.
