barbara busbinBarbara Baird Busbin, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 after a brief illness.

A native of Roanoke Rapids, NC, she was a resident of York County for more than 50 years. Bobbie worked as a cook in the cafeterias of York High, Yorktown Intermediate and Yorktown Elementary.

She and her husband operated the snack bar at USCG TRACEN Yorktown for several years. She finished her career working in various NAF food operations at Fort Eustis.

She was a longtime member of Yorktown Baptist Church. Bobbie was an extraordinary cook and hostess. She loved family get-togethers and made sure everyone had plenty to eat. She was proud of the historical heritage found in this area and enjoyed taking visitors to Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown. She was known for her made from scratch Christmas fruitcakes and date nut cakes, as well as her fig and blue ribbon pear preserves. She and Ed raised vegetables and blackberries and enjoyed sharing them with friends and family.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ora Edward Busbin, her parents Benjamin and Myrtle Baird, her sisters Lucille Searcy, Adelaide Powell, Dorothy Hemphill, and Lee Monfalcone, their spouses and her nephews Joe Searcy and FD Woodruff. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Kay and Jerry Griffin, her daughter Donna Busbin, her granddaughter and grandson-in-law Bonnie and Caleb Wright, her great-grandchildren Karsyn and Thomas J. Wright, sister-in-law Ina Busbin Archer and several cousins.

She was the much loved “Aunt Bobbie” to nephews Bill Powell, Ken Archer, Bill Busbin, and nieces Pat Woodruff, Nancy Reese, Loraine Searcy, Ina Ruth Van Landingham, Francis Archer, Shirley MacDonald, Pam Penny, Cheryl Stacy, Alice Harris-Willison, and their families. Bobbie loved her family, baseball, NASCAR, and working in her garden.

Visitation will be held at Amory Funeral Home on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Peninsula Memorial Park.
