Fresh off a four-set loss to Loudoun County in the Group 4A state championship match, Jamestown Coach Tom Stephenson was named Group 4A Co-coach of the Year with Loudoun County’s Sherrilyn Hanna.

“After 19 years of coaching, I was excited to receive that honor,” Stephenson said. “I thought Loudoun and Jamestown were the two best teams, so I was happy to see both coaches recognized.”

In addition to Stephenson’s honor, three Jamestown players earned first-team All-State recognition. Maria Esch, Ellie Popelka and Emma Schriner were all tabbed as first-team selections, while libero Gen Allison was also named a second-team All-State selection.

“[The honors] speak to how hard all four of them worked,” Stephenson said of his players. “They play volleyball year-round between high school, travel ball, off-season conditioning and camps. They have to give up a lot and make a lot of sacrifices for volleyball.”

Grafton has a pair of players earn second-team All-State honors as Rachel Blitt and Kaitlyn Young were recognized for their seasons.
