Richard George “Dick” Lane, 68, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015.

Dick was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Richmond. He graduated from Huguenot High School class of 1965 and the University of Virginia with a degree in civil engineering in 1970.

Dick was a Wahoo through and through and loved Virginia sports. He moved to the Peninsula in 1970, and was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding for 36 years, retiring in 2006.

Dick was an avid sailor and member of the Hampton Yacht Club and Cruising Club of Virginia where he was a past president. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and volunteered at the York County Food Closet and the Watermen’s Museum.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Murray B. Lane, Jr and Sandra K. Lane. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years Ellen Firth Lane and a sister, Meda Lane and her husband Christopher English of Richmond.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Clara Gestwick officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
