Hang It Up Picture Framing of Yorktown is hosting its inaugural Hampton Roads photography art exhibit and inviting area photographers to come out and participate.
Photographers can bring up to five pieces to show and sell at the show, which will take place Dec. 12. They may also bring extra prints of works on display to sell.
This judged show will feature cash prizes of $150, $100 and $75 for first, second and third place, respectively. Additionally, a “People’s Choice Award” of $50 will be given to the fan-favorite photo. Two photos will also receive honorable mentions.
Hang It Up owner Dimitri Kaligos will judge the competition portion of the show, drawing on his more than 30 years of experience owning and operating the art gallery and custom picture framing shop.
Acceptable photo submissions include both edited and unedited photos, as long as any alterations were solely the work of the photographer and owner. All methods of printing are acceptable, and sizes should not exceed 24 by 36 inches.
Photos should be matted or framed. Camera model, aperture (f-Stop), ISO, speed, location photo was taken at and any other pertinent info should be attached to the back of the work.
Participants must reside in the Hampton Roads area and be at least 12 years of age. All showing photographers are responsible for paying all taxes associated with the sale of their work and for insuring their work against damage or theft. Winners of the judged event must leave their work on display at Hang It Up Picture Framing until Jan. 15.
There is no particular theme to the show but all submissions must be appropriate to for display in an open, outdoor venue that may attract young art lovers.

Set-up for the show will begin at 9 a.m. Dec. 12. The show will being at 10 a.m. and winners will be announced at 2 p.m. A rain date is scheduled for Dec. 19.
