A Williamsburg woman who embezzled more than $5,000 from Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center, formerly This Century Art Gallery, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with all time suspended in Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court on Monday.

Candace Buck was a former employee of the gallery and investigators in the case believe she embezzled the money while employed there.

The embezzlement was reported in July 2014 and investigated for more than 60 days before Buck turned herself in.

Originally charged with one felony county of embezzlement, nine felony counts of forgery and nine felony counts of the passing off of a forged document, Buck had all but one embezzlement and one forgery charge dropped at a hearing in January.

Buck pleaded guilty to the two remaining charges in July and appeared in court Monday for sentencing.

Though she will serve no jail time as long as she remains in good standing with the law, Buck will remain on supervised probation for up to 10 years. She will also be responsible for paying back $5,891.90 in restitution and $453 in court costs.
