Evelyn Burch Hoffman, 93, avid 10-pin bowler, gardener, reader who enjoyed sewing

evelyn hoffmanEvelyn Burch Hoffman, of Williamsburg, passed away November 23, 2015 at the age of 93.

She enjoyed being a homemaker, was an avid 10-pin bowler, gardener, reader and also enjoyed sewing. Evelyn was a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.

She was born in Newark, N.J. on March 16, 1922 to the late Lily Massey Burch Walworth of Staffordshire, England and William Albert Burch of London, England. She attended school in Irvington, N.J. and spent 22 years as the wife of an army officer, traveling to many ports and stations.

The highlight of these travels was when her husband was assigned as the adviser to the Greek Signal School out of Athens. While there, she was involved in many volunteer activities, including the U.S.O.

After her husband’s retirement in 1964, she and her husband continued their travels, extending to many countries in Europe and states in the U.S. She was a resident of the Williamsburg area since 1985, originally residing in Kingsmill, later moving to the Patriots Colony community in 1997.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lt. Col. Raymond F. Hoffman and her son, Christopher C. Hoffman.

Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery’s Columbarium at a later date, where she will be put to rest alongside her husband.
