Get ready for the big Thanksgiving meal next week by working off a few calories this weekend at Iron-Bound Gym’s field day to benefit FISH.
Participants can come out Sullivan Square on Saturday to compete in 13 solo different events, including standard fitness challenges like doing push-ups or walking a balance beam as well as more creative activities like “dizzy bat” and “slam ball.”
All events will be broken down into four categories: men under 40, men over 40, women under 40 and women over 40.
The field day, which is a new take on the “IBG Games” that have been held for the previous several years, are intended to be open to people of all fitness levels and offer a fun opportunity to get active and potentially win prizes, said Scott Grafton, the gym’s owner.
In addition to the grand prize of a one-night stay at Great Wolf Lodge for the overall winner of the competition, several bonus prizes will be awarded for hula-hoop, limbo and balloon stomping contests. All participants will also receive a free slice of pizza from Z-Pizza or sub from Jimmy John’s.
The field day will be preceded by a Zumbathon, also taking place at Sullivan’s Square, kicking off at 9 a.m.
Admission to both events is a food, clothing or house ware donation to FISH, an area nonprofit that provides food and clothing to local families and individuals in need. Suggest items include spaghetti, powdered milk, canned soups and vegetables, crackers and other nonperishable items.
“[FISH is] a great local organization that helps people in need,” Grafton said. “This should be a fun event for everyone.”
Registration for the field day begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The field day begins at 11 a.m. and will finish at 2 p.m.
