Weldon Herbert George Jr., a native and lifelong resident of Virginia, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015.
Mr. George was educated in Surry County public schools. Later he honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. At the age of 25, Mr. George pursued his childhood passion and graduated from the mortuary science program at H. E. Dolan College in Philadelphia.
Since that time, he worked unceasingly as a funeral director and embalmer, humbly touching so many lives with immense compassion, care and love.
He retired from Whiting’s Funeral Home in December 2014 at the age of 92. Mr. George obtained honorary membership of the Virginia Morticians Association, in 2014.
He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Williamsburg and the Elks Old Capital Lodge #629. His work and service to the community was reflective of God’s guidance and purpose for his life. He was a mentor, teacher, counselor and friend. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his loving and fond memories his three beloved and loving children, Brinda Purvis George, Ruby Charmaine Wallace (Ronald Charles Wallace) and Weldon Herbert George III; his grandchildren, Brandon Phillip-Weldon George, Ronald Charles-Weldon Wallace and Renard Carl-Payne Wallace; his four siblings and sister-in-law, Ms. Edith Harris-Bernard, Ms. Mary Leola Stuart, Mr. Oliver Wendell George, Ms.Yvonne Martin and Mrs.Ellen George, all from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia; and a host of loving and caring friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at New Zion Baptist Church, 3991 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, with Dr. Robert A. Whitehead Sr. and the Rev. Ronald Ellis (Pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church) officiating.
