Mark Medford 2015Sgt. Mark Medford will serve a fifth term on the York County School Board, according to unofficial election results.

Medford took in 1,728 votes, or 53.22 percent, against challenger Julie Reichle, who garnered 1,516 votes, or 46.69 percent, results from the Virginia Department of Elections shows.

District 3 has 9,606 registered voters.

All election results are considered unofficial until a formal results review, which begins Wednesday, is completed and all provisional ballots are counted.

“I feel really fantasic,” Medford said. “I’m really happy that my district had the confidence in me to re-elect me to the School Board. It was a good race. My opponent ran a good race.”

Medford, a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s deputy who is York County’s D.A.R.E. coordinator, has served on the board since 2000. He identified bringing research, best practices and programming for a behavioral management manual for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities as his greatest achievement on the board so far.

This bid is Reichle’s first for public office. A longtime volunteer at the schools, she said she wanted to run for the school board to bring a new energy to the York County School Division.

“I ran to create change and awareness and I feel like that has already started, so I’m pleased,” Reichle said after her loss.
