Soroptimist International of Williamsburg welcomed Linda Rodgers as a new member last month.
The Williamsburg chapter of the organization was chartered in 1948 and since that time has been dedicated to improving the lives of girls and women through providing volunteer and financial support to local nonprofits and students.
Rodgers is the most recent addition to the group, bringing their numbers up to 39 women from a variety of walks of life.
The club is hosting a prospective new member reception Nov. 5 in the hopes of attracting more new recruits.
“We’re out here doing good things and we’d love to have more people join us,” said Willie Mae McCracken, member since 1977 and the organization’s current president.
Among the events Soroptimist hosts are an annual pancake supper and fashion show fundraisers, with much of the money going toward providing scholarships to young women in the area who seek higher education opportunities.
Interested parties are encouraged to come out and learn more at Thursday’s event, which will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at New Town Art Gallery.
This event is free and open to local women of all ages. RSVP to email@example.com.
