Citizens in James City County can take advantage of free firearm safety classes in October and November.
The classes are being offered by the James City County Police Department, the first scheduled for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 and the second from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 21.
Classes will be held at the Law Enforcement Center at 4600 Opportunity Way.
Each class, which is being funded by grant money from the National Rifle Association Foundation and Project ChildSafe, will cover basic firearm safety, handling, storage and concealed carry handgun laws in Virginia.
The James City County Police Department will not offer hands-on training during the classes, and attendees should not bring personal firearms to the sessions. Those who complete the class will be given a certificate of attendance.
Class sizes are limited, so those interested in attending will need to preregister by contacting Master Office Alan McDowell at 757-603-6026.
