Beyond Boobs! is hosting a “Run for the Hills” 10K in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
The organization, which was started in 2006 as a small support group for local women with breast cancer, has grown into an extensive support network and information hub.
Beyond Boobs! is particularly concerned with early detection and combating common breast cancer myths, as many of the founding members had delayed diagnoses based on their young ages.
Saturday’s Run for the Hills event includes a 1-mile fun run, a 5K and a 10K, in addition to a Fall Fest with activities for the whole family. All events will take place at Warhill Sports Complex.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to wear decorated bras, a costume or an all-pink ensemble, with prizes being awarded for the best individual and team outfits. The first 800 entrants will receive a free moisture-wicking T-shirt, and all finishers will also be given medals.
The 1-mile fun run begins at 8 a.m. and is $25 per person. The 5K kicks off at 8:30 a.m. and is $35 per person.
The 10K, which is sponsored in part by the Colonial Road Runner’s Grand Prix, begins at 9:15 a.m. and is $45 per person. All three events will take place over the scenic roads and trails surrounding the sports complex.
Additionally, those wishing to show their support but unable to attend in person can participate virtually by registering and pledging to run or walk wherever is convenient to them.
The Fall Fest will be taking place concurrent with and falling the races and will feature pumpkin painting, cornhole, a chili cookoff, face painting and henna, food samplings and games. The festival is open to all race participants and will last from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participants must register before race day and can do so here. For more information about Beyond Boobs, click here.
