Lafayette has controlled the Bay Rivers District this season, as it has for the last three seasons, and got past its toughest remaining roadblock during a 41-19 win against Poquoson on the road Thursday evening.

Like most of Lafayette’s games against district opponents this season, the Rams made it look easy.

Caleb Kraegenbrink accounted for Lafayette’s offense in the first quarter as he rushed for a pair of touchdowns, the first from three yards out and the second coming on a 59-yard scamper.

A scoreless second quarter from both teams made Lafayette’s advantage at halftime 14 points, which is far from insurmountable for a potent Poquoson offense.

However, Lafayette did not give Poquoson a chance to get back in the game as quarterback Cheyton Pine hit Hezekiah Grimsley for an 84-yard touchdown pass that put the Rams up 20-0 to start the second half.

A touchdown run from Armoni Burden later in the third quarter gave the Rams their biggest lead of the game at 28-0.

Poquoson got on the board in the third quarter as running back Kyle Poultney busted off a 52-yard touchdown run — Lafayette’s first defensive breakdown of the game.

In the absence of Lafayette running back John Douglass, who missed the game with an ankle injury, the Rams got a lift from other offensive options.

Kyle Johnson scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, while Grimsley hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass from Pine to close the game’s scoring.

A pair of Poquoson touchdowns in between Lafayette’s fourth-quarter scores did not put the game in jeopardy for the Rams, who remain perfect in the Bay Rivers District.

Lafayette (7-0) will host Tabb next Friday looking to extend its win streak this season to eight games.
