Volleyball Roundup: Grafton Cruises Past Tabb

Grafton only needed three sets to take down Tabb at home 25-23, 25-17, 25-17.

After narrowly beating Tabb in the first set, Grafton won the following two sets comfortably by eight points.

Sam Heard led the way for Grafton with a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs, while Kaitlyn Young posted 34 assists.

For Tabb, Abby Carney recorded 18 assists, 12 digs and seven kills, and Madi Dadez added 11 digs and eight kills.

Grafton (12-5) has now won five of its last six matches and four consecutive. Grafton will host New Kent Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Tabb (2-9) will look to snap a six-match losing streak when the Tigers host Bruton on Tuesday.

Jamestown Blows Out Lafayette

Jamestown comfortably defeated Lafayette in straight sets at home Thursday 25-15, 25-15, 25-11.

The Eagles had no trouble getting past the Rams during all three sets, winning each by at least 10 points.

Maria Esch led Jamestown with 15 digs and 12 kills. Emma Schriner logged nine kills and two blocks, and Ellie Popelka added seven kills, three blocks and three digs.

Lafayette was led by Abby Goetsch, who had 14 assists and five digs, while Kelly Carroll chipped in six kills and three digs.

Jamestown (15-1) has won nine consecutive matches and is looking to reach double figures when the Eagles host Warhill on Tuesday.

Lafayette (7-6) has lost three of its last four matches and is hoping to reverse the trend at home against York on Tuesday.

New Kent Sweeps Bruton

Bruton’s volleyball team dropped a straight-set match against New Kent at home Thursday 25-11, 27-25, 25-21.

After dropping the first set by 14 points, Bruton battled over the final two sets and gave New Kent more trouble. Despite their best efforts, the Panthers were unable to secure a set victory.

Gabby Calloway paced Bruton with 22 digs, 14 kills and five aces, while Aaliyah Bartlett added 15 assists, 13 digs, 2 kills, 1 block, 1 ace.

Bruton (3-11) will look to snap a two-match losing streak when the Panthers travel to play Tabb on Tuesday.

HRA Falls During Road Trip to Peninsula Catholic

Hampton Roads Academy fell in four sets to Peninsula Catholic 25-10, 16-25, 25-19, 26-24 on the road Thursday.

After dropping the opening set, HRA fought back and tied the match at 1-1, taking the second set 25-16.

Unfortunately for the Navigators, the third and fourth sets did not go their way and they ultimately fell in the contest.

Megan Leavey paced HRA with 13 kills and 10 digs, while Rhett Deverich added a team-high 32 assists.

HRA (6-10) will host Norfolk Christian on Tuesday.

Warhill Steamrolls Smithfield

Every player on Warhill’s volleyball team got to see the court during a decisive 25-14, 25-16, 25-8 win against Smithfield at home Thursday.

Warhill (9-3) has won seven consecutive matches and will look to keep that streak alive during a road match against Jamestown on Tuesday.
