Election 2015Two James City County assisted living homes will host voter registration drives nearly a month before residents cast their ballots Nov. 3.

Brookdale Williamsburg, formerly known as Chambrel at Williamsburg, will host a registration drive 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at its main building, located at 3800 Treyburn Drive.

Patriots Colony will host a drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at the assisted living building, located at 6200 Patriots Colony Drive.

A.J. Cole, James City County general registrar and director of elections, said residents can register to vote, update their registration and apply for an absentee ballot. Residents who do not have an acceptable photo ID can apply for one and complete the photograph and signature portions in person, Cole said.

He said residents should register to vote and cast their ballots because “local elections matter.”

“These are the people who make the laws locally or in Virginia that affect all of us,” Cole said. “If you’re not voting this election, you’re letting other people run the way you live.”

James City County residents will vote for three board of supervisors positions, three school board positions, representatives in the House of Delegates and State Senate, the circuit court clerk, the sheriff and the Commonwealth’s Attorney.
