NavigatorsThe Hampton Roads Academy athletic department is hoping locals will hit the links during the Hampton Roads Academy Golf Classic on Monday at the Williamsburg Golf Club.

Sponsored by the Hampton Roads Academy Navigator Club, a parent organization that supports HRA athletics, proceeds from the tournament will benefit HRA’s athletics projects that include turf improvements to playing fields, improved irrigation and additional outdoor seating.

HRA Alumni Relations and Events Coordinator Debbie Tanner said the school is expecting 18 to 20 foursomes competing in a captain’s choice format.

On the day of the tournament, check in and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. and will run through 12:30 p.m. when teams will tee off during a shotgun start.

A putting contest will be held with a chance to win a $5,000 grand prize after the tournament is completed. In addition to the putting contest, a reception and awards ceremony will be held at the Williamsburg Golf Club at the conclusion of the day.

For anyone not interested in playing in the tournament but still wanting to contribute to the cause, Hampton Roads Academy has multiple volunteer or sponsorship options available for the tournament ranging from $50 to more than $5,000.
