JCC Police carJames City County residents will have the chance to meet top public safety officials and learn what they can do to contribute to their neighborhood’s security Thursday night during a community public safety meeting.

The meeting, which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, will be attended by Police Chief Brad Rinehimer, Interim Fire Chief Ryan Ashe and County Administrator Bryan Hill.

Rinehimer said the meeting will be an open forum for residents to ask questions, hear about crime trends and learn strategies for keeping themselves safe.

He said this is the first time the county has held a community meeting with representatives from different public safety departments.

“We want to get out there,” Rinehimer said. “I think it’s an opportunity for [residents] to come out to a place in their community and meet their public safety representatives.”

He added that community meetings help public safety departments be open and transparent with the residents they serve.

“I think there’s a sense of secrecy around what law enforcement does and this is simply not the case,” Rinehimer said.

Rinehimer said two more community meetings are being planned for later this year and early next year. The Williamsburg Community Chapel is located at 3899 John Tyler Highway in Williamsburg.
