College Watch: Standout Historic Triangle Alumni, Sept. 14-20

William & Mary football player DeVonte Dedmon nearly helped the Tribe pull a major upset against the University of Virginia on Saturday.

Historic Triangle alumni had big weeks and put up substantial numbers in volleyball, while field hockey players also had successful weeks.

Cross-County

  • William & Mary junior Kurtis Steck (Lafayette) finished 23rd in the William & Mary Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 18.
  • William & Mary junior Rachel Rabbitt (Grafton) finished 24th during the William & Mary Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 18.

Field Hockey

  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill junior Julia Young (Grafton) recorded two assists during a 5-0 win against No. 9 Louisville on Sept. 18.
  • Old Dominion freshman Kealsie Robles (York) made three saves during a 3-2 win against Wake Forest on Sept. 18.
  • Lynchburg College freshman Kayla Copeman (Bruton) recorded an assist in two games last week — a win against Mary Washington and Wesley on Sept. 16 and 19, respectively.
  • Ball State University sophomore Carley Shannon (Bruton) scored a goal during a Sept. 18 loss against Indiana.
  • University of Virginia junior Macy Peebles (Tabb) scored a goal and added two assists during a 4-2 win against Duke on Sept. 18.

Football

  • William & Mary sophomore DeVonte Dedmon (Warhill) hauled in seven passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns as the Tribe fell just short of upsetting the University of Virginia 35-29 on Sept. 19.
  • Christopher Newport sophomore Tyrell Noel (Grafton) recorded four tackles during a Sept. 19 loss to Wesley.
