Marvin S. Sechrest, 102, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015.

He is the son of the late William Addison Sechrest and Zera Ellen Barnes. He was born in Hillsville, Carroll County, VA, his first paying job was water boy at Salem United Methodist Church in 1924.

He married Betty Alice Hall on Sept. 21, 1932. He moved to Hampton, VA to work as a machinist at Newport News Shipbuilding.

After WWII, he accepted a position as Supervisor with CRT Bus Company, (later Pentran and HRT) for more than 20 years. He transferred to Shop Foreman of the machine shop, which was his first love. He retired from CRT after 32 years of service in 1963.

Since retirement, he kept himself busy with exercise, riding his golf cart, rocking on the porch and continued service to his church, Providence United Methodist Church.

Mr. Sechrest was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Alice Hall Sechrest and his second wife Bonnie T. Sechrest; two sisters, Bertie Alma Utt and Ovie Roxie Hiatt; five brothers, Alvis Murphy, Rufus Eddie, Joseph Arnold, James William and Johnnie Gaston Sechrest; two sons, Charles Gilbert and Michael Larry Sechrest; and a daughter Edythe Marilyn Fentress.

He is survived by his two sons, Marvin Eugene Sechrest and his wife Shelby of Newport News and Kenneth Edwin Sechrest and his wife Susan of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Marvin’s wonderful life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 in Amory Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Douglas C. Akers, officiating.

Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Memorial may be made Providence United Methodist Church, 113 Old Dare Road, Yorktown, VA 23692. Arrangements are by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
