Grafton’s boys cross country team took home first place during the Albert E. Dorner Newport News Invitational in Newport News Saturday.
The Clippers took home the team win with 81 points, which beat second-place Maggie Walker by 28 points. Warhill finished the boys race in fourth place with 140 points, while Tabb and Lafayette tied for sixth place with 183 points.
While the Clippers took home first place during the boys team competition, Lafayette’s Konrad Steck won the race in an impressive time of 15:53.
Dylan Lorio-MacNamara earned the best finish for Grafton’s boys team, taking seventh place in a time of 16:19. His teammate Price Owens finished shortly behind him in ninth place with a time of 16:24.
Warhill’s boys team was led by Daniel Cretney, who earned 14th place in a time of 16:40.20. Preston Klekar led Tabb with a 15th-place finish in 16:42.
Grafton also earned the best finish of the Historic Triangle teams in the girls race, taking second place with 86 points and finishing 22 points behind winners Maggie Walker. Lafayette finished just outside the top three in fourth place with 103 points.
Lafayette placed two runners in the top five during the girls race. Delaney Savedge finished in second place with a time of 19:04 and Brooke Crookston took fourth place in 19:40.
Maya Caden had the best finish for Grafton, logging an eighth-place finish in a time of 19:49. Grafton’s Meredith Beaver finished in 15th with a time of 20:10.
The Clippers also had three runners — Kira Freedman, Samantha Wanderer and Tacoma Mendelsohn — finish within six positions of each other in the upper-20s to round out the Grafton scorers.
