Jamestown’s volleyball team lost in the Gold Division semifinal round of the Endless Summer High School Volleyball Tournament in Newport News on Saturday.
The Eagles, a Group 4A school, held their own against opponents from Groups 5A and 6A en route to placing third out of 36 teams in the tournament.
In their opening match, the Eagles took down 5A school Menchville 27-25, 25-13, 25-21 and followed up the performance with a strong 25-11, 20-25, 25-12 victory against Cox, a 6A school.
During the tournament quarterfinals, Jamestown cruised to a straight-set 25-10, 25-17 win against 5A school Hickory.
Jamestown finally stumbled during the Gold Division semifinals, which is reserved for top teams in the tournament. The Eagles (6-1) were upended in straight sets by Group 5A powerhouse Kellam High School 25-23, 25-22.
Emma Schriner led Jamestown’s offense with 37 combined kills through four matches. Maria Esch had 40 digs, 24 kills and 12 aces, while Maggie Viniard logged 62 assists, 24 digs and 10 aces.
Other Jamestown standouts were Gen Allison with 48 digs, Maddie Spence with 60 assists, 28 digs and 12 aces and Ellie Popelka with 16 kills and four blocks on the day.
Jamestown will continue its season at home Monday against Poquoson.
