A slow first half of play gave way to a pair of second-half goals from Chirstchurch, which handed Walsingham Academy a 2-0 road loss Friday evening during the Christchurch Invitational.
The first half featured almost no scoring opportunities for either team with Walsingham Academy recording the only shot, which was not on goal, during the opening 40 minutes.
Walsingham Academy came up just short of scoring a go-ahead goal in the second half. Max Rinaldi went down in the Christchurch box early in the second half, but no penalty was called and play continued.
With 50 minutes eclipsed, Christchurch found a loose ball in the Walsingham Academy box and placed it in the back of the Trojans’ net.
Five minutes later, a similar play took place and another loose ball ended up in Walsingham’s net for the final goal of the contest.
Walsingham Academy (2-2-1) will continue play in the Christchurch Invitational on Saturday against an opponent still to be decided.
